Lamb

by jexmas on November 22, 2016

In the fields in the tractor
I held the tiny lamb in my arms
Rescued from the drought
And the mother
Who abandoned it
In the relentless, parching sun

On the road in the tractor
I held the tiny lamb in my arms
And watched while it died
So silently
It just stopped breathing
Silent, but for the sputter of an engine

I held the tiny lamb in the tractor
All the way to the homestead
Shocked in a way
And crying
Unable to breathe
Silent, but for the sputter of an engine
